RWA Enters a Substantive Advancement Phase in North America:
Stakeholders Gather in Toronto to Explore Asset Tokenization and Compliance Pathways
On March 26, the preparatory meeting for the RWA Ecosystem International (North America) Association was held in Toronto, Canada, marking the entry of the real-world asset (RWA) ecosystem in North America into a substantive advancement stage. Against the backdrop of accelerating global asset digitization, RWA is transitioning from concept to compliant and platform-based implementation. Representatives from government, industry, academia, and the financial sector gathered to engage in in-depth discussions on asset tokenization pathways, regulatory frameworks, and industrial applications.
1. Government, Business, and Academia Convene to Discuss RWA Development Pathways
The meeting was chaired by President Linda Lu. Former Canadian Senator Victor Oh attended and delivered remarks. Representatives from sectors including new energy, finance, real estate, technology, food and beverage industry, and the crypto industry participated. Discussions focused on the development of RWA in North America. Attendees generally agreed that RWA, as a key bridge between physical assets and digital finance, is becoming an important direction in global fin-tech development.
2. Focus on Compliance Frameworks to Define Development Prerequisites
Victor Oh noted that Canada’s financial system is known for its stability and prudence, and RWA-related projects should be advanced in compliance with securities regulations and anti-money laundering frameworks. He recommended leveraging professional legal advisors to establish compliant pathways and strengthening communication mechanisms with government and regulatory bodies to balance innovation and risk control. Experts also pointed out that although Canada’s regulatory environment is relatively strict compared to some international markets, once a mature compliance model is established, it will carry strong demonstrative value.
3. Accelerated Industry Integration: New Energy Sectors Lead the Way
Regarding practical implementation paths for RWA, the meeting focused on asset type selection and industry integration. Linda Lu highlighted that sectors such as new energy, energy storage, and charging infrastructure—characterized by stable cash flows and clear asset structures—are among the most promising RWA application scenarios. With the development of AI and computing power industries, the importance of energy assets is expected to continue rising. Coco Chen stated that the association will prioritize integrating professional service resources such as legal, auditing, and technology to build a comprehensive asset tokenization service system to support the digital transformation of real-economy enterprises. Additionally, industries such as real estate, artwork, food and beverage were discussed, with participants suggesting the exploration of structured design of corporate cash flows to enable asset digitization and enhance financing capabilities.
4. Platform Development on the Agenda with a Clear Phased Plan
The meeting outlined a clear roadmap for the association’s future development:
- May 2026: Founding Conference of the RWA Ecosystem International (North America) Association
- June 2026: Launch of the RWA Training Academy (planned in collaboration with universities)
- October 2026: North America RWA Ecosystem Summit
Meanwhile, the association will promote the development of industry standards, talent training systems, and strengthen cooperation and resource integration with international markets.
5. Building a Global Collaboration Bridge to Advance the RWA Ecosystem
The RWA Ecosystem International (North America) Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to building an international platform that integrates government, industry, academia, research, and finance. It aims to promote the deep integration of asset digitization and the real economy. Based in Canada, extending across North America, and connecting to global markets, the association seeks to facilitate cross-border asset circulation and enhance industrial value, playing an active role in the global RWA ecosystem.
